Internationalisation strengthens the competitiveness of Portuguese companies
The Wood and Furniture Industry continues to assert itself in global markets. Between 2010 and 2024, the sector’s exports increased by 95 per cent, from 1.55 billion to 3.03 billion euros.
This growth was driven by a strong commitment to internationalisation. The increase in exports outside the EU was 128 per cent, particularly in furniture, bedding and lighting products, which grew by 145 per cent.
Portuguese presence at the sector’s biggest event in the Middle East
From 14 to 16 April 2025, Portugal will take part in the Dubai Wood Show, the sector’s main event in the United Arab Emirates. The event is organised by AIMMP – Associação das Indústrias da Madeira e do Mobiliário de Portugal, as part of the Inter Wood & Furniture operation, co-financed by COMPETE 2030.
Eight Portuguese companies are part of the delegation: MBN Group, Portilame, Revesperfil, Ribadao Wood Boutique, SimplyCeram, Temahome, TradingTimber and X8 Solutions Group. The Portuguese participation is concentrated in Hall 6, Stand A 01, and also includes a meeting point area for promotion and networking.
On 14 April, at 11am, the Portuguese delegation will be visited by Ambassador Fernando Figueirinhas and Economic Counsellor Manuel Couto Miranda.
Inter Wood & Furniture promotes sustained internationalisation
The operation ‘Inter Wood & Furniture 2024-2025 – Sustained Internationalisation of Companies in the Wood and Furniture Sector’ is co-financed by COMPETE 2030, Portugal 2030 and the European Union.
This internationalisation plan includes structured actions to consolidate the presence of Portuguese companies in high-potential markets.
Since its creation, the project has supported more than 400 companies in 195 actions in more than 30 markets. With incentives of up to 50 per cent, this operation has been fundamental in boosting the sector’s export growth.
Dubai Wood Show as a strategic business platform
The Dubai Wood Show is one of the world’s most important fairs for the wood and furniture sector. Every year it brings together hundreds of international decision-makers and buyers.
For Portuguese companies, it represents a unique opportunity to promote national design, create partnerships and open doors to new markets.
According to Vítor Poças, President of AIMMP, ‘attending international fairs such as the Dubai Wood Show is crucial for presenting Portuguese innovation and strengthening our position in the world.’
