INDISOL takes a step forward towards a greener, smarter electricity sector that is aligned with the challenges of carbon neutrality.
INDISOL S.A. is developing the IsoSensorGreen project – Smart medium and high voltage insulators for integrated and green solutions, an R&D operation co-financed by COMPETE 2030 that places the company at the forefront of technological innovation and sustainability in the electricity sector.
A response to carbon neutrality targets
The project stems from the growing need to decarbonise the energy industry and find viable alternatives that contribute to carbon neutrality, a goal that the European Union has committed to achieving by 2050. ‘The IsoSensorGreen project, which is cofinanced by the COMPETE 2030 programme, has enabled INDISOL S.A. to remain at the forefront of the development of new solutions, products and services for the medium and high voltage smart grid market,’ emphasises Filipe Afonso, the company’s COO and head of operations.
Three lines of research for a sustainable future
At its core, IsoSensorGreen is based on three lines of research covering both medium and high voltage. The first focus is the development of an Isolator 4.0, with integrated communication modules capable of sending real-time data to utilities, paving the way for preventive maintenance and smart monitoring. The second line focuses on the Dry Air Insulator, an innovative alternative to SF6 gas, known for its high greenhouse effect potential, offering an effective and environmentally friendly solution. Finally, the third line includes a High Voltage Insulator, suitable for ranges between 75 and 800 kV, with integrated sensorisation for smart grids and particularly relevant in the context of growing offshore production.
Collaboration with INEGI
The operation is conducted in close collaboration with INEGI – Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management, an entity that adds scientific and technological expertise in the areas of materials, manufacturing, electronics and smart systems. This involvement allows for an integrated approach, enhancing results and strengthening INDISOL’s capacity for innovation.
A milestone in INDISOL’s history
For Filipe Afonso, this project represents a milestone in the company’s history: ‘With the development of the IsoSensorGreen project, INDISOL S.A. has continued and expanded its sub-projects under development, increasing its capacity for innovation, accelerating processes and products under development through support in technological resources and equipment, and boosting interaction between R&D teams and groups.’
Contribution to the European Green Deal
Through IsoSensorGreen, INDISOL reinforces its position as the Iberian leader in the supply of electrical insulators, responding to the demands of a changing sector and offering integrated, technologically advanced and sustainable solutions. This project not only contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal, but also propels the company to the forefront of future trends in smart grids.
