Event marks the international railway calendar
The Portugal Railway Summit 2025 took place on 21 and 22 May at the National Railway Museum in Entroncamento. Organised by the Portuguese Railway Platform (PFP), the event brought together experts, companies, academics and government representatives. Under the slogan ‘This train can’t stop!’, the summit emphasised the importance of the railway for the economic and sustainable development of Portugal and Europe.
COMPETE 2030 reinforces the role of European funds
On the second day, the president of COMPETE 2030, Alexandra Vilela, took part in the panel dedicated to sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance). Her speech emphasised the role of European funds in the transition to smarter, greener and more competitive mobility. Alexandra Vilela explained how the available funding supports digitalisation, innovation and the reduction of emissions in the rail sector.
Seven panels to debate strategic challenges
The summit promoted debates on crucial topics for the sector, including high speed, artificial intelligence, safety, intermobility, sustainable mobility and human resources. National and international speakers shared their experiences and strategies for tackling current and future challenges.
Networking and synergies for the future of the railway
In addition to the panels, the event encouraged networking between public and private organisations and clusters. The initiative aims to create partnerships that foster innovative and collaborative projects, increasing the competitiveness of the national railway sector.

The Portugal Railway Summit 2025 reaffirmed the country’s commitment to sustainability on the railway. COMPETE 2030’s participation reinforces the importance of European support for an effective energy and technological transition.
