Redefining the traveller's journey from origin to destination

The LUGGIT E2E operation redefines the travel experience by taking luggage out of the traveller's path, from origin to final destination.

The LUGGIT E2E :: First & Last Traveller Touchpoint project, promoted by Bus Terrace Technologies, SA and co-financed by COMPETE 2030, is an innovative response to one of the biggest inconveniences associated with travel: luggage management. In a context where travelling should be synonymous with freedom and comfort, luggage continues to be a source of concern, wasted time and frustration for millions of passengers around the world.

From luggage as a problem to luggage as an invisible service

Over the last few years, LUGGit has been developing and implementing a solution that allows luggage to be collected and delivered at locations and times chosen by customers, already validated in several international markets. This technological and operational evolution has paved the way for a greater ambition: to completely dissociate the traveller’s journey from the journey of their luggage.

As Diogo Correia, Co-Founder & COO of LUGGit and head of operations, explains, “the LUGGit E2E :: First & Last Traveller Touchpoint project was born out of the ambition to free passengers from the hassle of carrying their luggage throughout their journey”. This vision translates into an end-to-end approach that positions LUGGit as the tourist’s first and last point of contact.

An end-to-end solution that starts at home

The main objective of the LUGGIT E2E operation is to allow travellers to drop off their luggage when they leave home and only come into contact with it again at their final destination, whether that is a hotel, local accommodation or another specified location. To this end, the project focuses on integrating remote baggage check-in with airport and airline systems, overcoming logistical, operational and security challenges.

According to Diogo Correia, this is “an end-to-end solution that integrates remote baggage check-in with airport and airline management systems, enabling a truly seamless travel experience.” This integration represents a disruptive step in the tourism and mobility sector, eliminating steps traditionally associated with queues, waiting times and uncertainties.

Technology, security and sustainability at the heart of the operation

The LUGGIT E2E operation is based on heavy investment in research and development, with a focus on baggage security, real-time tracking and strict access control. These elements are essential to ensure user confidence in a service that tracks baggage throughout the entire journey.

At the same time, the project seeks to ensure the economic sustainability of the model, consolidating LUGGit as a European benchmark in smart luggage management. “The support of COMPETE 2030 has been crucial in accelerating the technological development of this solution and reinforcing the robustness and operational reliability of the service,” emphasises the manager, also highlighting the importance of validation in a real-world context.

Validation in a real environment and vision for the future

One of the key milestones of the operation was the implementation of a pilot project in partnership with TAP, which allowed the solution to be tested in a real operating environment. For Diogo Correia, this phase was crucial to “validate the model in a real context” and demonstrate LUGGit’s potential to transform the international travel experience.

With the LUGGIT E2E :: First & Last Traveller Touchpoint project, LUGGit is taking a decisive step towards creating a new way of travelling that is more comfortable, safer and focused on the traveller’s time. By removing luggage from the emotional equation of travel, LUGGit is establishing itself as a true facilitator of the tourist experience of the future.
